Scanning of the pipelines

Pipelines are scanned on an ongoing basis in order to detect hazards, as required by international regulations and standards, such as the API.

The scanning is performed in two ways:

  • Computerized scanning: conducted by a computerized robot designed to locate defects in the pipelines.
  • The robot moves along inside the pipelines, using special MFL based instrumentation to detect defects in the pipeline and marks the exact location of the defect, its nature and severity, facilitating precise maintenance of the pipeline according to the severity and according to API standards and local regulations.
  • Manual scanning: in addition to computerized scanning conducted along the pipelines, manual scanning (DCVG/ CIPS) is conducted by a certified member of staff, who walks along the pipelines with a probe that emits electromagnetic waves. The electromagnetic waves detect problems in the external coating of the pipeline and issue an alert before a failure manifests itself.

Fire extinguishing equipment

The company possesses top-of-the-line technical equipment for fire detection and extinguishing, and fully complies with the provisions of Fire and Rescue Commissioner Directive No. 511 defining the means required to extinguish fires on tank farms, and how the fire extinguishing is to be done. This directive is based on the international NFPA standard, which defines the fire extinguishing requirement on tank farms and is based on extensive experience in this area worldwide. The company possesses dedicated fire trucks that comply with all the necessary standards, and that are fully outfitted with advanced fire extinguishing equipment.

The company is capable of handling fire extinguishing incidents on its premises on its own, and the EAPC’s fire trucks have also been called in on a number of occasions to assist local firefighting teams extinguish fires in the city.

The oil terminals have a lightning protection system installed as an integral part of the terminal. The purpose of the system is to prevent a lightning strike that could cause a fire to break out during a storm.
